How to Make a Toy for Grownups is a blog about making Live for Speed work with a motion platform.

My name is Matti Piiroinen. I’m a student of software engineering at Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences. My thesis is about developing a racing simulation for a motion platform with Live for Speed as the game of choice. This blog is about the progress and hardships encountered in making the ultimate race sim freak’s wet dream a reality – about making a bad ass toy for grownups.

The thesis project started in autumn 2007 and has since seen somewhat slow but steady progress. I’m writing about problems and solutions one encounters when developing a motion simulation and probably some other random stuff in and around LFS. I’ll be writing a progress entry now and then at least until the project has ended and the sweet, sweet toy has been completed – that is, somewhere in this spring or summer. You’ll probably be seeing a lot of theoretical scribblings and a some bits of code here and there. I hope I can give some pointers or at least share a few interesting experiences regarding software development for motion simulation. Perhaps it helps, perhaps it doesn’t but at least this kind of a thing is not often written about. So, let us delve into the realm of motion simulation with LFS!
